I came home for my vacation from med school. I had passed second year med and now I am a third year! Hurrah!
I promised a reader of this blog (senen) to do a piece on the Happy Meal Museum of Bacolod. Well, the first thing I did when I finally got some free time was to make a bee-line to the McDonalds on Lacson street.
I really think one of the interesting places in Bacolod is the Happy meal museum. It is BEAUTIFUL!
I’ve seen many Mcdonald’s restaurants with half-assed happy meal collections. The Bacolod Happy meal museum is really special. A full section of the restaurant is devoted to the museum. Diners can pull up a chair and eat while viewing the exhibit.
Tall glass cases house Happy meals from around the world. The Bacolod McDonalds really went all out with this one.
This is what the area looks like. The current Happy meal toys are placed in the first case. (That’s the one with the yellow banner and the ‘toon Ronald Mcdonald.)
I got out my camera and started taking pictures of the toys. There were so many. Unfortunately most of them were those typical cheap plastic Mcdonalds toys that nobody cares about. However I did manage to find a lot of neat stuff too.
First up, some toys celebrating the anniversary VHS release of Disney cartoons. I like their Robin hood toy.
Sonic the Hedgehog toys that you can push around like little toy cars.
Wow, are those Fraggle Rock toys ? Those must be from the 1980′s.
These are Dennis the Menace toys from the U.K. They are very well made toys.
Cute Felt-covered Berenstein Bear toys. Do WANT!!
Assorted dolls and Beanie Babies.
Nintendo toys. These look weird.
Hello Kitty tumblers.
Garfield toys circa 1989.
A whole lot of very beautifully made Disney toys. I think these are tumbler top figures or something.
All the 101 dalmatians! Each of them with their own accessory and doing their own thing.
The next pictures are probably not Happy meal toys but Mcdonalds collectibles. They are awesome!
Dolls dressed in Halloween costumes.
Ronald Mcdonald and friends driving a car. Very cool.

This is probably McDonald’s answer to the Coke Santa. The Christmas wreath is so cute!
On a side note: I had a quarter pounder with cheese, fries and a vanilla milkshake.
If ever you’re in Bacolod, drop by the Happy Meal Museum!

Yes Yes Yes! Martin that was awesome!! I so wish I could go there!! If I am ever blessed to visit the Philippines I will have to go see this place. I’m sure there are many amazing sites I would love to see, but I would have to visit this McDonald’s! There was something similar I saw near Disneyworld in Orlando, Florida US at a McDonald’s, but not nearly so cool! Thanks for the tour Martin!
Nice. I love bringing people here whenever I get home in Bacolod. Brings back those childhood memories.
Cool! And By the way, those dolls in Halloween costumes are actually Wizard of Oz costumes. Heheh, awesome… I wish I was there.
Ooops, just the bottom pic atleast.
So what cool thing are you going to show us next Martin!?!?
oh wow that looks fantastic ,im in the uk id love to see that

buskisbuskis@hotmail.com
I’m sorry I don’t own these toys. They belong to the museum
I saw in happymeal.com that transformers animated will be the featured happymeal and was suppposed be out last july 5; but i got flabbergasted when i saw it was Detective Conan instead!
I am a transformers toy collector, and was really so DISSAPOINTED at what Mcdonald’s marketing dept. or whoever the damn rascal who decides what would be the featured happymeal toy. Man, would everybody explain to me how or what they do in deciding what toy should be featured in a happymeal! I really wanna know why D. Conan, why not transformers?
By the way, I am from the philippines. Transformers animated was featured in Mcdonald’s stores in US, then why not here in the Philippines, di ba?
the new mcdo in binondo got quite a collection too
they have a lot of mcdo pins
and mcdo toys
The dolls in costumes actually WERE McDonald’s Happy Meals toys. They are from the Madame Alexander dolls. There were several different times McD did MA dolls in Happy Meals. The first picture of three shows a wedding groom, Little Red Riding Hood and Halloween Jackolantern. The second picture, as somebody has already pointed out, has three dolls from the 2007 Madame Alexander Wizard of Oz Happy Meal toy collection (Dorothy, Scarecrow and Witch).
Neat museum, looks like lots of fun.

i’m an avid Happy Meal collector. S’pore does not have a museum like this that is permanent.
How I wish I could we could have one permanent one here in Singapore.
Amazing!!! Martiin it has been a huge collection that i’ve never seen by the way i’m also a collector of Mcdpo toys since high school and i hope i could do the same in order to be used as a museum for a cause.
I will always remember the flying saucer packaging from the early 80′s I cannot find any info on it. But it was plastic flying suacers with stickers that came in different colours and replaced the box for a limited time.
good times
Hey R. Williams, I remember that flying saucer!! That’s from way back when. Same type of “toy” was the train box that came with stickers and the food inside!! Just one of the many different promotions that they had.
There is a book, that I mistakenly never picked up, which had coverage of almost every Happy Meal toy ever made. Including the Monsternauts, lil bendable plastic figures that I loved as a kid!! One looked like a bat, another a bug creature, and a eco creature, etc!! Very cool, and a long time ago!!
I have a couple of unique items that you might consider for your museum.
1) The original Ronald McDonald concept statue made of plaster that stands approx. 24 inches tall and 9 inches at the base. I have had this item since 1971. It was once displayed in the Advertising Department at the Corporate Headquarters in Oak Brook, IL.
2) A replica model of the McDonald’s Unit my father was going to build in Union City, TN. in the late 1970′s.
Email me if you have any interest,
Tom Sorce
I DONT OWN THE MUSEUM…
I’m with RT. Williams. I’ve been searching for those boxes online and cannot find anything on them. I remember there were also boats and ships. Please post a link if you do find something.

I have McDonald sugar to swap for airline sugar or scarf.
I would like to know if anyone knows if there are still McDonald toy conventions anymore. I use to attend them all in Chicago, but havn’t heard if there are going on any longer? Please let me know. I collect all fast food toys. Fun..

We have a set of Ronald, Grimace and the Hamburguglar stuffed toys in the original single packaging. We think they were ment to be in the happy meal display case and never made it that far. Tags say they are from 1996 and they are in mint cond. We were wondering what they might be worth.

Thank you for sharing! Looking at these photos brought back many memories, especially from the 1980′s! I still have some of my daughter’s Happy Meal toys from that time…the Berenstein Bears, the 101 Dalmations, the french fries, burger and shake that turned into transformers, the Miss Piggy and Kermit dolls, and some others as well..we collected them from the 90′s too when she was growing up and they’re still in great shape. So glad that we hung onto them, hopefully to pass on to grandchildren one day! Thanks again for sharing your photos and the trip down memory lane….wish there was a display like that nearby we could visit.
