MY Mario costume is now finished! Click here to view the pics!
I’ve decided to cosplay! Finding a character to cosplay is very hard for me since I’m not exactly in great physical shape and I don’t have the good looks. After looking around on the internet for ideas, I settled for a character that is very well known, easy to cosplay and more importantly, a character that has a very easy costume that can be quickly thrown together.

The character that I’ll be cosplaying will be… MARIO!!
A Super Mario costume has six very simple elements.
1. Mario hat – The trademark.. The most important piece of the costume
2. Red long sleeved shirt.
3. Gloves
4. Boots
5. Blue overalls
6. Mustache
Throw those together and you get a mario costume.
HOW MY COSTUME IS BEING MADE:
1. Mario hat - I had a tailor stitch me a mario hat. I’m so impatient waiting for it to be done. I found this nice hat on Cosplay.com and I printed it out and had the tailor copy the design.
You don’t have to get a tailor to make you a hat. Just get a red cap, cut out a nice white piece of paper and draw a red M on it and stick it on the red cap. You got a mario hat!
2. Red Long Sleeved shirt and gloves – I went to SM to look for these. Pretty easy task. I went over the gloves with a fabric pen to create the cartoony look of the gloves.
3. Overalls - Originally the plan was to buy ready made over-alls from dickie’s Philippines. Easier said than done. Dickie’s Philippines DOESN’T carry overalls. I called three shops before giving up and deciding to have a tailor make them for me instead. It was much cheaper than buying a “branded” overalls and I am certain my new overalls fit me well.
4. Mustache – Tricky bit. I tried surfing the net for fake mustaches being sold in the philippines or tips on how to make fake mustaches. I didn’t find any helpful tips. I don’t want to make yarn or carboard mustaches.. They look horrid. I decided to GROW my mustache out instead.
5. Brown workboots/shoes whatever - This is probably the most expensive piece. I haven’t saved up enough to buy these yet. I’ve decided to buy caterpillar brand brown boots/shoes. The color is nearly identical to Marios. Until then I guess i’ll have to settle for using my black shoes.
6. Additional props for Mario costume.
Mario is pretty recognizable! But It’ll be even more fun if you had a couple of props. At first I searched all over the net for some nintendo merchandise in the Philippines but then yesterday while I was at SM Bacoor’s toy kingdom I found cool mushrooms that not only LOOK like the nintendo mushrooms, but are actually also made in japan, come in the same colors and with the same mushroom eyes (except for the red one)
Green mushroom- 1up
Yellow mushroom – Grow mushroom (it doesn’t look like the real nintendo mushroom but it’s ok)
Red mushroom – My major gripe with this is that this doesn’t have the “nintendo” eyes. Oh well, at least it’s cheap!
I’m lacking one mushroom color, the blue mushroom (shrink) but I don’t really mind. I plan to hang these mushrooms from my overalls like a plumber would hang his worktools.

hmm… nice dude. if i get the chance, now that transformers is in rage, i’d do an autobot. alam ko madali lang un – about six cardboard boxes. stitch with alambre. ayos. no sweat.
I wish you can post here what you actually looked like as Mario.
I haven’t worn the costume yet because I still haven’t got my hat. Hopefully I will have the hat by tomorrow
Where’s the hat?? Where’s the hat??
Nice idea! I like the mushrooms- (:

were can u get or buy a super Mario costume?
Haha Nice i’ve always wanted to make one. great article
cool
I dont know if you have a store near you called Hot Topic, but the other day I just bought my son a mario, a boo ghost, and a yellow mega mushroom stuffed toy, all have tags that say ‘New Super Mario Bros.’, and the copyright says 2008, so I’m assuming they’re fairly new…He LOVES them! Just in case you were looking for more accessories, thats the store to check, or their website…Good Luck!
I’m having a costume party on Halloween night so I figured I would get the costumes out of the way for me and my cousin. I’ve made a Mario costume for my cousin and a Luigi costume for myself and if you look in the right places the stuff for the costumes is very easy to find between amazon.com for the hats and long sleeve shirts and the craft store for stick on felt to make the “M” & “L” badges for the hats and yellow buttons for the overalls, a costume store for the fake mustaches and gloves, and Wal-mart for the overalls. It’s gonna be awesome cause his girlfriend is going as Princess Peach and my date will be going as Princess Daisy (from the Mario Brothers movie) Pretty simple costumes to throw together as long as you don’t wait until the last minute and have a couple weeks to wait for the stuff if you order online.
Or you could buy one of those hats for 10 bucks at e4hats.com!
This was probably going to be the last Halloween that my cousin/best friend and I were going to be able to hang out on Halloween and I wanted us to be the Mario Brothers for Halloween since we are like brothers. I started working on the costumes three months prior to the Halloween party. It was relatively simple to get the costumes to look good once I got everything together. The hats are “newsboy’s hats” from amazon.com and I went to the Michael’s craft store and bought adhesive felt and a fabric “M” and fabric “L”. I used the extra stick on felt to make the yellow buttons for the overalls. I bought the green and red shirts on amazon.com as well. The gloves were easy to find at a military surplus store and the overalls were an easy buy at the local Wal-mart store. The simplest part of the costume to find was the fake mustaches which i managed to buy at the costume shop. We had an awesome time at the Halloween party and got a ton of compliments on the costumes. Before the party we had to go to Wal-mart to pick up some last minute party supplies and I thought it would be funny for both of us to go into the store. Everyone kept asking where we bought them and we let them know that I put them together. There were so many people coming up to us and wanted to get pictures with us on their cell phones and little kids were just like “HEY MARIO!!! HEY LUIGI!!!!”. It was awesome and a great feeling that we made so many people smile and that the costumes were so easily recognizable.

I dont know where to find CHEAP blue overalls
you could buy them at thrift shops for a fraction of the price. You can get secondhand overalls too.
